All About Camp Shalom

Camp Shalom, established in 1967, is a day camp sponsored by the Central Kentucky Jewish Federation.  Activities are geared to encourage unity, fun, and learning for children 4 through 10 years of age.

Each week of camp has a unique theme that activities relate back to. Our days are filled with sports, art, storytelling, swimming, shiur (learning), games, special projects and more.  At the end of each fun-filled week, we welcome the Sabbath together with candles, blessings, songs and Shabbat traditions. Children of all denominations are invited to attend.

Camp Shalom offers our children an opportunity to be with other Jewish children. Bringing our youth together for Camp Shalom creates a unique experience where friendships and memories will last a lifetime. Camp Shalom offers a camping experience which cannot be duplicated elsewhere.

Special Activities

Additional activites aside from the daily routine often vary at camp.  Each year we try to add something fun and different for the campers.  Some of our special activities have included guest storytellers, reptile shows, astronomy shows, community personalities visiting, local and national children's singers and musicians, and all-camp maccabiah games.

Extended Day

Extended Day is an option for the camper to stay until 5:45 rather than leaving at the regular dismissal time of 3:00 pm.  An extra swim session and craft project as well as other supervised activities are offered. The fee for the week is an additional $40 and requires pre-registration.

Ofarim (Deer)

This group is for our 4-5 year old campers.  Ofarim participate in special age appropriate activities that are similar to the older groups but are tailored to fit their needs. There is an appropriate balance of sports, play, water games, music, arts & crafts and Jewish learning.  Special consideration is given to these campers and their unique needs since most of our Ofarim campers are at camp for the first time. We have a high staff to camper ratio.

Tsofim (The Scouts)

This group of 6-8 year olds have the full range of Camp Shalom activities available to them. Tsofim participate in shuir, which is our Jewish learning taught by our camp staff and local  rabbis. Tsofim camper activities also include swimming, fishing, sports, art, games and chugim (a daily elective activity that each campers will choose including drama, science, cooking, art, sports and more).

Chalutzim (The Pioneers)

Chalutzim campers, ages 9 -10, are given  opportunities to explore, hike, swim, work on team building through games and low ropes course, chugim (daily elective activity) music, art, and more. Chalutzim have more challenging activities suitable for their age. They gain positive reinforcement through the success of personal achievement within the camp programs.
